Hair love

Hi!

I can't believe it's friday already! The week has flown by. Tomorrow I'm at a Christian conference called Opwekking (revival). Of course I will take lots of pictures and share what I learn. But today I want to share something completely different; a couple of my favorite hair styles. The pictures are found on Pinterest. Later I will hopefully make my own curly hair tutorials:-)

Today's playlist

Today is kind of a hard day. This morning I had to see the psychiatrist, which isn't always a nice start of the day. Then I got a little nauseous and have been in bed untill now. But I always have a beautiful playlist to my life, songs singing around in my head. Including these:

Pinterest Style

Hi!

As you might know by now, I'm a big fan of pinterest. I like to browse around, pin things I like and keep secret boards with ideas for presents. I also like to get a little inspiration from there where it comes to my wardrobe. Of course, the things you pin aren't totally realistic budgetwise. But I certainly ouldn't mind having them in my closet!

If you want to see where the items are from, go to my style board.

Repost; bearing gifts as if they're burdens....

From the archives:

This kind of is my lives' song, my theme. It describes exactly how I function, and what God thinks of it. Each time I hide away in neurotic anxiety for life, He reminds me I'm free, and it's okay to start living like it! Ginny Owens - Free

Turning molehills into mountains,
Making big deals out of small ones,
Bearing gifts as if they're burdens'
This is how it's been.
Fear of coming out of my shell,
Too many things I can't do too well,
Afraid I'll try real hard and I'll fail -
This is how it's been.

Till the day you pounded on my heart's door,
And you shouted joyfully,
"You not a slave anymore"

You're free to dance-
Forget about your two left feet
And you're free to sing-
Even jofful noise is music to me
And you're free to love,
Cause I've given you My love,
and it's made you free
I have set you free

My mind finds hard to believe
That You became humanity
and changed the course of history,
Because You loved me so.
And my heart cannot understand
Why You'd accept me as I am,
But You say You've always had a plan,
And that's all I need to know.

So when I am consumed by what the world will say,
It's then You're singing to me,
As you remove my chains

You're free to dance-
Forget about your two left feet
And you're free to sing-
Even jofful noise is music to me
And you're free to love,
Cause I've given you My love,
and it's made you free
I have set you free

Free from worry, free from envy and denial
Free to live, free to give, free to smile

You're free to dance-
Forget about your two left feet
And you're free to sing-
Even jofful noise is music to me
And you're free to love,
Cause I've given you My love,
and it's made you free
I have set you free

Blooming

Hi!

Since a few days our little country is in full bloom. Trees are filled ith tiny new leaves, blossoms are everywhere and more and more flowers make an appearance. It's lovely. Not many things  remind me more of God's love than spring. All is new, extravagantly beautiful. As are His mercies, every day. Just wanted to remind you:)

Backgrounds

Hi!

recently I have been pinning some lovely pictures. Some of them are very suitable as a background on your phone. You can find all my Biblical-inspired pins here, but these are some of my favorites:

"This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
His hand the wonders wrought.

This is my Father’s world, the birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white, declare their Maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world: He shines in all that’s fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass;
He speaks to me everywhere.

This is my Father’s world. O let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world: the battle is not done:
Jesus Who died shall be satisfied,
And earth and Heav’n be one.

This is my Father’s world, dreaming, I see His face.
I ope my eyes, and in glad surprise cry, “The Lord is in this place.”
This is my Father’s world, from the shining courts above,
The Beloved One, His Only Son,
Came—a pledge of deathless love.

This is my Father’s world, should my heart be ever sad?
The lord is King—let the heavens ring. God reigns—let the earth be glad.
This is my Father’s world. Now closer to Heaven bound,
For dear to God is the earth Christ trod.
No place but is holy ground.

This is my Father’s world. I walk a desert lone.
In a bush ablaze to my wondering gaze God makes His glory known.
This is my Father’s world, a wanderer I may roam
Whate’er my lot, it matters not,
My heart is still at home."

A hymn by Maltbie Babcock, via Happy Days.

Life

Hi!

It's been a while- again... It's not like I have a lot to do, but time passses so quickly and sometimes I don't know what to write on this little blog. It's mostly for me, me writing here. But it would be nice to get some comments on how you like it and what you would like to see more of. So if you've got a minute to spare, please let me know how you feel.

The last week has been a little difficult. I'm constantly tired and have an ever present headache that won't be bullied away by pain meds. But the weekend is looking good so far. I have been shopping for presents for two of my sweet friends whose birthdays are coming up, and tonight I have a date with another one of my good friends. Going to an Italian restaurant is exactly the pick-me-up I need! Sometimes indulging a little does the trick, doesn't it? The weather forecasts for tomorrow look great, so I guess I'll be spending the day outside, enjoying nature.

What are you up to?

World Autism Awareness Day

Today is World Autism Awareness Day.

To me it's kind of a big deal day. Both my big and little brother have autism; my big brother has Aspergers and my little brother classical autism. Over the years we've had our share of negative comments. And yes, sometimes my little brother can be quite difficult. Like he's being on overdrive adolescent behaviour. But no, not always he can do something about it. No, it's not all about 'good paenting'. No, he isn't just behaving badly. And he is so much more. He is funny, sweet, kind, happy and social.

Sometimes it can make me really sad most people around us know nothing about autism. To them, my little brother is kind of the name you find in the dictionary behind autism, and that's that. They don't know why he behaves the way he does, don't know how difficult it can be and especially don't see that it's more than being 'weird'. I would love it for them to just take some time to find some information and get to know the illness a little better. Get to know the people behind the illness a little better. It would make the world a more beautiful place, I'm sure.

Review: Forgotten God by by Francis Chan

Forgotten God by Francis Chan

Lately I have been reading 'Forgotten God' by Francis Chan. It's a very informational book, has 117 pages and I first chose it because of the nice quotes of Francis Chan I came across on the internet. As you might have noticed by this post, I have been thinking and studying about the Holy Spirit lately. So this book in particular really spoke to me, more than Chan's other books. So, here we go!

Francis Chan is the best-selling author of books, Crazy Love, Forgotten God,  Erasing Hell and the host of the BASIC.series (Who is God & We Are Church). He has also written the children’s books Halfway Herbert, The Big Red Tractor and the Little Village and Ronnie Wilson’s Gift.

Francis is the founding pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California, and is the founder of Eternity Bible College. Francis now lives in Northern California with his wife, Lisa, and their five children.

I chose this book, as I said, because of my current interest. But also because it promises to teach you a lot about the Holy Spirit. And it does. Not in a book-wise way, but on a very personal level. Chan always writes clearly, understandably and gives a lot of examples from his own life and from those of people he knows. He is never dull, but sometimes it takes a bit of persistence to read this book. Mostly because, with a subject like this, it's hard to really make a statement without going beyond what the Bible says about it. And of course, it is very important to keep the Bible as a guide. So sometimes it reads more like a very thorough Bible study than anything else. But that is also the beauty of this book. Everything Chan says about the Holy Spirit and His influence on peoples lives is based on Biblical truths. This makes this book a perfect guide of the Biblical view on the Holy Spirit.

Chan's way of writing is thorough, empathic, provocative and filled with humor. He is never dull. Look at this quote, for instance,. It's a great explanation of a Biblical given, but it's also funny:)

Years ago, when a random thought came into my head, I decided to share it with my life. 'Have you ever wondered what caterpillars think about?' I asked. Not suprisingly, she said, 'No'. I then proceeded to tell her about the confusion I imagined the caterpillar must experience. For all its caterpillar life, it crawls around a small patch of dirt and up and down a few plants. Then one day, it takes a nap. A long nap. And then, what in the world? (...) What happened to its dirty, plump little worm body? What does it think when it sees its tiny new body and gorgeous wings? As believers, we ought to experience the same kind of astonishment when the holy Spirit enters our bodies. We should be stunned in disbelief over becoming a 'new creation' with the Spirit living in us. As the caterpillar finds its new ability to fly, we should be thrilled over our Spirit-empowered ability to live differently and faithfully. Isn't this what the Scriptures speak of? Isn't this hat we've all been longing for?`

As you can see, the book talks about the effect the Holy Spirit will have on your life and who He is. Most of it will be known to most Christians, but Chan challenges you to take a better look at your feelings, God's work in your life and the way you react on and listen to the Holy Spirit.

One of the best bits of the book, in my opinion, is the following quote:

In Galatians 3, we read that 'Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us... so that we might recieve the promised Spirit trough faith. (vv 13-14) Wow. (...) Christ redeemed us from the curse we were under so that we could recieve the promise of the Holy Spirit. The 'Promised Spirit' is not a small promise. Jesus suffered a gruelling death so that I could have the amazing gift of the Holy Spirit. How dare I take this for granted?

Some other inspirational quotes:

Upon foretelling His death, Jesus comforts the disciples by telling them that 'another Counselor' is coming (John 14:16 NIV). In John 16:7 He goes so far as to say it is to their advantage that He leave so the Counbsellor can come. And in Acts 1:4-5, after His death and resurrection, He tells His disciples to stay in Jerusalem and wait for the Holy Spirit. (The sidsciples obey because that's what people do when someone rises from the dead and gives instructions). Jesus' disciples had no idea what or whom they were waiting for, or what it would be like. But they were expectant and trusting because Jesus had instructed them to wait for this good gift. Then in Acts 2, we see the fulfillment of this promise in a way that must have shocked the disciples. The Holy Spirit's power is unleashed like no one had ever seen or experienced before, and Peter shares the amazing promise that this Holy Spirit is available to anyone who believes. The Epistles tell us of the Holy Spirit's amazing power at work in us, our Spirit-enabled ability to put our sin to death trough Him, and the supernatural gifts He gives us.

(...) His gift of the Holy Spirit is really not for our own pleasure or purposes. The Spirit is meant to lead us toward holiness. The Spirit is here with us to accomplish God's purposes, not ours. When you decide to put to death - to crucify- your flesh, you are by default choosing the way of the Spirit. You are leaving one path and joining another.

Something I missed in this book is a very practical thing. A lot of people won't know simply HOW to hear, see and experience the Holy Spirit. Chan doesn't really explain ways to learn how to do that. Maybe because it's very subjective and there is no biblical way mentioned to do so besides meditation and prayer. But still, some extra experience from believers would have been nice.

All in all I really like this book. It can be a bit dry, but never boring and it's filled with Biblical examples.

The book can be bought online and in a (Christian) bookstores.

Hema kaartenrek (Hema card rack)

Hi!

Anyone who knows me, knows I love to send and recieve cards. I am a big mail fan in general, but a card often has a lovely design and has been carefully chosen by the sender. So I was a tad to exited when I saw the lovely new card racks from Hema, a Dutch shop. There are three different kinds; one with 5, one with 9 and one with 15 places to hold cards. There are vertical and horizontal spaces, so all your favorite cards can get a lovely show-off! Also, there are three colours: pink, white and grey.

I've seen the card racks in three different Hema's and also online. I'll show you pictures of my filled up one later.
